CRO Tutor v3.0s is an interactive program that simulates a working Cathode Ray
Oscilloscope (CRO). It is a "freeware" version of CRO Tutorv3.0 and contains
most of the features of the full version.
The features include: AC / DC measurements, triggering, calibration and time-base controls
of a CRO and a test is available at each level to check
your progress.
To access CRO Tutor v3.0s, click
HERE
(Use this link when this Ebook has been downloaded as .pdf)
A window will open with
Cro3s.exe
Click on the file and it will display the interactive program on your screen.
You will also need the file:
VBRun300.dll
in Windows\System directory otherwise the program will not execute.
(Windows 95 has this file pre-loaded in to its Windows\System directory.)
This Visual Basic runtime file is freely available from all shareware sites.
A 226k .zip file Vbrun300.zipcan be downloaded
HERE.

If this Ebook is being viewed on the web, download the trial version of
CRO Tutor:
CRO Tutor v3.0s ct3s.exe (self
extracting:41K) or:
CRO Tutor v3.0s
ct3s.zip
(zipped version:21K - you'll need an unzipper program)
or ct3s.zip
from Talking Electronics website.
Create a folder called CRO-Tutor and download
ct3s.exe
into it.
Click on ct3s.exe It will extract to 5 files.
Click on Cro3s.exe and the program will produce a simulated CRO.
To operate the program, turn the CRO ON.
Go to: Next Waveform and select New Sinewave.
A random waveform will be displayed on the screen.
Use the Time/Division controls to produce a waveform on the screen that
consists of one complete cycle. Use the Volts/Division
control to get the waveform to fill the height of
the screen.
This is the best result to aim for but you can also try to get 3 or
more cycles on the screen to see if the waveform has a glitch or other
irregularity occurring at random intervals.
This will not apply to the generated
signals in this tutor program.
You can then click Level and select Intermediate.
This will introduce DC GND AC to the screen and some of the
signals that are generated via New Sinewave will have a
DC component. Click on DC and the signal will shift up or down the
screen. This means the signal is similar to ripple appearing on a DC voltage.
There are other features on the demonstration program and you should spend
time getting to know how to use the controls.
THE FULL VERSION
CRO TUTOR V3.0 simulates a single channel Cathode Ray Oscilloscope with a
colourful, uncluttered display. Timebase, Horizontal Shift and Level
controls are displayed on-screen and may be adjusted with mouse
clicks on Option (Radio) buttons and Slider bars.
The more complicated controls such as coupling and trigger-level are
added to the screen in three stages.
A new feature is the INSTRUCTOR mode which gives animated
instructions on the operation of all the oscilloscope controls.
Sinewaves of various amplitudes and periods are generated and the
you can request to be shown the values of these parameters. When
ready, you can opt for a test in which five random sinewaves are
displayed in succession. The controls must be correctly adjusted and the
waveform's parameters measured accurately in order to pass the test.
Each level has its own test.
The screen can be printed or copied to the clipboard at any time.
A full version is called
CRO Tutor v3.0 and
is available from the programmer for us$19.00
